A NOMIKAI (Japanese: 飲み会) is a drinking party phenomenon particular to Japanese culture. Nomikai are a part of the culture of most places of employment, from schools to nightclubs. During nomikai there are rules of etiquette:

1. Generally, one tries to avoid filling one's own glass, but instead offers to fill others' for them

2. The unwritten code is that ‘what happens during nomikai, stays at nomikai’. The more casual and honest exchanges that happen between coworkers during nomikai is called bureikō in Japanese.
